NOTES TO ELECTRICAL CROSS-REFERENCE TABLE

Decimal-inch dimensions are located in the colored rows.

Metric (millimeters) are located in parenthesis in the clear white rows.

The Outside Diameters of all pipes and tubes vary slightly +/- the stated diameters because of differing manufacturing methods. For the acceptable tolerances of these slight +/- variations see the specific ANSI, ASME, ASTM, NEMA Standard for each pipe or tube.

NPS (Nominal Pipe Size) is a dimensionless designator that has replaced the former term of art "Inch Nominal Size". NPS is not entirely precise in referring to a pipe or tubes' actual size, but human usage requires the use of such ready reference term for quick everyday discourse and commerce and there it predominates as the traditional dimensional reference used in industry discourse.

Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT) Outside Diameters have as of January 2001, been verified as consistent with those industry standard dimensions also specified in NEMA C80.3 - 1994. The ENT referred to in this Table is seamless metallic tubing for use as a raceway for electrical wires or cable in an electrical system.

Electrical Nonmetallic Tubing (ENT) (a/k/a Smurf® Tube) Outside Diameters have as of January 2001, been verified as consistent with those industry standard dimensions also specified in NEMA TC-13-2000. The ENT referred to in this table is flexible corrugated tubing fabricated from PVC and intended for use in the installation of electrical conductors.

Gray Rigid PVC Electrical Conduit Outside Diameters have as of January 2001 been verified as consistent with those industry standard dimensions also specified in ASTM D 1785 - 99. The PVC pipe referred to in this Table is poly(vinyl chloride) PVC pipe for use in the distribution of pressurized liquids only. The Outside Diameter remains the same for both wall thicknesses known as Schedule 40, 80 and 120.

Electrical Flexible Metallic Conduit Outside Diameters have as of January 2001, been verified as consistent with those industry standard dimensions also specified in ANSI/UL 1-1999 (f/k/a ANSI C33.92). The Outside Diameter remains the same for both regular and reduced wall thicknesses.

Electrical Flexible Metallic Liguidtight Conduit (EMP) Outside Diameters have as of January 2001, been verified as consistent with those industry standard dimensions also specified in ANSI/UL 360. The Outside Diameter remains the same for both regular and reduced wall thicknesses.

Electrical Liquidtight Nonmetallic Conduit (NM) Outside Diameters have as of January 2001, been verified as consistent with those industry standard dimensions also specified in UL - 1660.
